Instructions for Magical Magnets Dancing Girl Experiment

  • Sketch a character of your choice — like a dancer — on coloured paper. Glue it to a cardboard.
  • Cut the character out and then add details. The dancing girl is ready.
  • Tape the dancing girl to the straw.
  • Place a ring magnet in bottle cap with some clay.
  • Insert the straw into the clay in bottle cap.
  • Place a magnet on either side of the scale.
  • Now, move the scale towards the cap. What do you think happens?

Science behind this

Isn’t the girl dancing as you take the magnets closer?

Well, as you know every magnet has North Pole and South Pole. Now then, when two magnets face each other either attract or repel.

Attraction is due to the unlike poles (North-South, South-North) and repulsion is due to the like poles (North-North, South-South).

When the scale is taken closer to the cap, the cap moves away as it repels. And so, the dancing girl!
