Marvellous Maths Activity for 4-6 Year Olds: Ladybird Addition Tool

Materials

  • A4 sheet
  • Coloured papers
  • Sketch pen
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Pencil
  • A pair of scissors

Instructions For Marvellous Maths Ladybird Addition Tool Activity

How to do?

  • Draw and cut out a big circle from the red coloured paper. This forms the body of the ladybird.
  • Out of the black coloured paper, cut out an a smaller circle than the red coloured paper. This forms the head of the ladybird.
  • Out of the black paper, cut out small circles. These circles form the dots.
  • On the A4 sheet, apply glue and stick the head and body of the ladybird.
  • Using a ruler, draw a line at the centre of the ladybird body.
  • Finger-paint the eyes of the ladybird.
  • Draw the legs and the antenna using sketch pen.
  • Draw a box at the end of the sheet and add the ‘+’ and ‘=’ symbols.
  • Your lady bug addition tool is ready!

    How to play?

  • Cut out small bits of a blank sheet and write down different numbers.
  • Place a number before and after the ‘+’ symbol. Encourage your child to place the mentioned number of black circles on each side of the ladybird body.
  • To add, they can count the number number of dots on the ladybird and place the correct number in the answer box.
  • Isn’t it fun to add the numbers? Explore and help your child to add larger numbers. How about making another addition tool? You can make a giraffe addition tool with your little one and have fun adding numbers.

    As your child places and counts the dots to arrive at the total sum, their logical reasoning abilities develop. Overall, this game improves their numeracy.
