Imparting quality education

Childhood is a very sensitive phase of life. The nurturing and care children receive during this stage has a profound impact on their holistic development. Apart from home, school also plays a vital role in a child’s life.
Like any other mother, Viji Venkat was striving to offer the best education for her son and support him in his holistic development. She wanted her little one to study in a good school that imparts quality education.
Unfortunately, she didn’t find such a school in her small town. She was worried about her son’s future and also about all children living in that area. She didn’t know what to do. That’s when she thought of starting a preschool of her own.  
But it was never easy for Viji to convince her in-laws, who were conservative, to set up a preschool in a small town like Perumbavoor, Kerala.
Even though there was resistance from the family, Viji never stopped dreaming. She was always willing to go the extra mile and do whatever it takes to achieve her dreams.
She believed that the first few years of life are crucial in a child’s life and it has to be nurtured in the right way. Though she had been planning to start a preschool for a long time, it’s in the year 2000 that her dream became a reality.
Rekindling her passion, Viji established Akshara Play School And Kindergarten with the objective of improving the quality of early education in her area. It’s been about 19 years since Viji started her preschool.
But running a preschool was not as easy as she thought it would be. The challenges that she faced were many.

Viji used to spend an enormous amount of time preparing lessons and daily activities. As other teachers in her school had no idea on how to plan things, Viji had to literally do everything on her own without any guidance or support.
“I used to work for almost 18 hours a day. From writing lesson plans to preparing worksheets, I had to educate other teachers on everything. Besides that, doing things manually consumed a lot of my time.”
